There are three age categories for the race series. The OPEN class consists of ages 39 and under. Ages 40 to 49 fall into the MASTERS class. Added this year by popular demand ( and some whining! ) is a GRAND MASTERS Division of 50 and older. We give Black Hills Trail Running Series Awards to the top three men and women in all three age divisions at the end of the Series.
We award points as follows:
For every race....
OPEN/MASTERS/GRAND MASTERS male & female 1st Place - 10 points
OPEN/MASTERS/GRAND MASTERS male & female 2nd Place - 9 points
OPEN/MASTERS/GRAND MASTERS male & female 3rd Place - 8 points
OPEN/MASTERS/GRAND MASTERS male & female 4th Place - 7 points
OPEN/MASTERS/GRAND MASTERS male & female 5th Place - 6 points
OPEN/MASTERS/GRAND MASTERS male & female 6th Place - 5 points
OPEN/MASTERS/GRAND MASTERS male & female 7th Place - 4 points
OPEN/MASTERS/GRAND MASTERS male & female 8th Place - 3 points
OPEN/MASTERS/GRAND MASTERS male & female 9th Place - 2 points
OPEN/MASTERS/GRAND MASTERS male & female 10thPlace - 1 point
We tally points as follows: By the end of the series all results are tallied, and prizes are awarded to the top three men and women in both OPEN, MASTERS and GRAND MASTERS age groups. Participants completing the entire Series ( regardless of times ) are also recognized.
All awards will be given out at the SD Trail Running Championships in November. If winners are not in attendance the award will be held for them at The Runner's Shop.

There are no division awards for each individual race because we're out there having fun... but stick around to have your name drawn at random for something great from one of our friendly sponsors. See some of the cool stuff donated last year on our Sponsor page.
We also award all participants that complete the entire Series - regardless of times, etc. We hope you enjoy trail running and we're not shy about bribing you!
